Dear Readers,
During the past few weeks I tried to find a good reason why Prince William of Wales wants to marry Kate Middleton and not me. Now, I'm not marriage material, but I would have gladly made an exception for the Prince. Ah well, I guess I did get a bit caught up in the whole wedding fever and Will + Kate 4 ever mood myself. In fact, I have been looking at pictures of wedding dresses during most of the afternoon. Whilst I impatiently wait for Kate's choice of wedding dress, I present to you the most iconic wedding dresses to ever walk down the aisle.
10) Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy
Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy got married in 1953, choosing to wear a cream dress designed by Anne Lowe. I'm not a big fan of the dress, as in, I would never wear it myself. Yet, I decided to include it because it perfectly captures the clothing styles and trends of the 1950s: a full skirt, soft shoulders and an emphasis on the waist.![]() |

9) Queen Victoria
In 1840, Queen Victoria of England got married to Prince Albert. I had to include Queen Vicky, since she was the one who set most of the trends and traditions we see in weddings nowadays. She was the first royal bride to have bridesmaids carrying her train, a trend which quickly caught on. Before Queen V's wedding, brides rarely chose white dresses and usually opted for red, yellow or blue gowns. So us white wedding fans owe the trend to Vicky. Thanks for choosing a white lace and silk dress V!

8) Mia Farrow
Anyone who knows me, even remotely, might be startled by this choice. Mia Farrow got married to Frank Sinatra in 1966, wearing the most simple, clean-cut, white suit. I'm more into HUGE wedding dresses but I somehow like this double-breasted suit. It clearly marks a huge a contrast to the wedding dresses of the 50s. Brave choice, totally oozing 60s Mod vibes!
7) Kelly Rutherford
Argh, had to include this gorgeous dress from the Gossip Girl Season 2 finale. Lily, aka Kelly Rutherford, wears Vera Wang as she walks down the aisle to wed Bart Bass, father of Chuck Bass the Hottie. Lily picks a breathtaking mermaid dress, with flower details on the side. I just adore that the dress is slightly twisted at the waistline. It kind of reminds me of my mum's wedding dress, which was just as gorgeous!
6) Audrey Hepburn

6) Audrey Hepburn
The wedding dress Audrey Hepburn wore during the movie 'Funny Face' was featured in many top wedding dresses list. It's not exactly my cup of tea, but I just love it on Audrey. She can pull off just about anything. Audrey is a goddess. She's beauty personified. Okay, I must calm down. This dress actually started the tea-length wedding dresses trend. I think it's really playful!

5) Queen Elizabeth II
I think I have a thing for British Queen's wedding dresses. QE2 married Prince Philip in 1946, at just 21 years old. I chose this dress for one particular reason. It represents a more down-to-earth Queen: a young girl who patiently saved up ration cards to buy the dress's material and who wore her mother's tiara on her wedding day. The dress was made of silk, tulle embroidery, silver thread and pearls.
Wallis Simpson famously wed in a a light blue dress. I adore the front details on the upper part of the dress. Once again, I don't think I could wear this on my wedding day but I would wear a blouse with such details. I think it really stands out from most wedding dresses, so an extra point for you Wallis!
3) Princess Diana
Argh, choosing my top 3 was such a difficult task. I deem it impossible to exclude Princess Diana's 1981 wedding dress from an iconic wedding dresses list. This is probably the wedding dress of the century, the ultimate fairy-tale wedding gown! The meringue dress, a David and Elizabeth Emanuel design, had these huge puffed sleeves, ten thousand pearls and sequins, and this never-ending 25-foot train. Omg, that's said to be the longest train in the history of Westminster. (I plan to break the record when I marry Prince Harry). The wedding carriage was too small to carry Diana, her father and the huge train. The designers made an exact replica of the dress, just in case the original one got damaged. The replica was sold at an auction for $175,000!
2) Sarah Jessica Parker
OMG! I mean seriously, that feather head-accessory is too wicked! Carrie wears a Vivienne Westwood dress during the 'Sex and the City' movie. This dress, the dramatic feathers and the choice of red lipstick is so edgy, modern and eclectic. Westwood also designed a three-quarter length version of this same dress which sold out in half a day on Net-a-Porter, even if it cost £4,530!
Oh I'm such a sucker for cream and white lace! And I just drool over anything with a high neckline (thank you God for small boobies, I can pull off high necklines!). Pearls? I adore them. Grace Kelly's wedding dress had them all. Kelly married Prince Rainier in 1956, wearing what I consider to be the perfect wedding dress. I love all the little details it has, from the lace next to her hairline and the flattering cut at the waist. The veil and the high neckline frame her face beautifully. The limited amount of exposed skin directs the attention to her face. This is what I want my wedding dress to look like, maybe with a longer train.
They say that your wedding is the most important day in your life. Following that train of thought then, choosing your wedding dress is the most importance stylistic choice of your life! Let's see what Kate will choose. And you, dear readers, should start thinking about it , you don't want to end up like Camilla Parker-Bowles don't you?
