I have to start by expressing one wish, hoping that God up there is listening to me: Please allow me to do this more often, I love reviewing and reporting fashion shows. Thank you God.

After speaking to God, I turn to speak to you dear readers. I will tell you about my awesome experience yesterday at the Julien MacDonald Fashion Show, held at Debenhams as part of the events for Malta Fashion Week. I am sure that the name 'Julien MacDonald' rings a bell to many of you, especially all those who follow Britain's Next Top Model. In fact, Julien is one of the judges on the show. However, Julien is known for much more than this: he has worked with leading fashion names like Chanel and Givenchy, and he has also been awarded an OBE for his services to fashion. He's considered to be one of the Britain's best designers, who has dressed scores of celebrities including Naomi Campbell, Madonna, and Shirley Bassey.
So, given all I've written about him up here, you can imagine how excited I was yesterday. Lara Boffa, tiny (not really...) woman living on a little island in the Mediterranean, was actually sitting on the front row at a MacDonald Fashion Show. Argh, and to top it all off, I was given sushi and wine. Could it get any better? Actually, YES! I got to meet him personally and he is a really nice person. I wanted to ask whether he would like to adopt me, but I think that would have been inappropriate.
The fashion show launched MacDonald's new collection, bearing the name 'Diamond'. When asked about the collection, MacDonald said that 'Diamond' is a sister collection to 'Star'. He said the woman who wear his earlier collection 'Star' now have daughters, so he felt he had to create a new collection for the younger ladies. That is how 'Diamond' was born. The collection, which is cheaper than 'Star', is targeted at ladies aged between 16 and 35. MacDonald also spoke about what he believes to be the 'million dollar question': What is the secret to style? He said that style is about feeling comfortable in what you're wearing, rather than blindly following trends since not all trends suit everyone. MacDonald added that a girl has the 'WOW' factor when she's comfortable with feeling different. You can imagine me smiling like a mad woman when I heard these statements.
The designer mentioned how he is inspired to create his designs. He said that he's inspired by his travelling experiences.Mind you, he also added that even Malta might inspire a new collection. Woot woot! MacDonald also added that he's inspired by works exhibited in galleries and festivals.
After a few minutes of questions and comments, the first fashion show started. We admired MacDonald's first collection 'Star', which according to the designer himself, is more targeted towards older ladies. I think I'm a middle-aged woman inside, because I loved it. Do you think I should start to worry? Anyways, existential crisis apart, I really liked 'Star'. I couldn't help but notice the emphasis on the waist. Mac Donald included waist belts, waist cuts and basically anything that brings out a woman's waist. Needless to say that such details make the collection very feminine. I also noticed a considerable use of flower prints and flow materials, and to my delight, many maxi dresses.

Then came the moment we had all been waiting for, the launch of 'Diamond'. Excuse the cliche, but this collection is set to truly make each woman feel as precious as a diamond. The statement pieces of the collection make it starkly clear that this collection is aimed towards a younger generation. Nevertheless, I think there are pieces that could be pulled off by woman of an older age. 'Diamond' included gorgeous patterns, including florals, tie dye, stripes and animal prints, and eye-catching embellishments. I also noticed that MacDonald also emphasised the waist in this collection.
What did Lara Boffa think about this event? Well, I had very high expectations which MacDonald surely did not fail to satisfy. Once again, I must mention the excellent organisation and setting up of the show. I think that organising a fashion show in the middle of a store is a great idea! It is set to attract customers to the show, some of which would have never known of the show itself before.
I would like to conclude this post by citing MacDonald himself when he gave his final message to us. He encouraged us to follow our dreams. He said, 'if it happened to me, it will happen for you' so 'work hard and never give up'. Heard that readers? What a truly inspirational man!
