Breaking Fashion Rules is a MUST!

Dear Readers,

Douglas MacArthur once said that 'You are remembered for the rules you break'. Think of it... who was the most admired girl/boy back in secondary school? Probably, it was the one who refused to wear her/school school blazer even if your headmistress insisted it was absolutely compulsory. The cool kid was usually he/she who didn't conform to all the rules. Those cool kids liked taking risks.

I honestly think that you can't leave a mark unless you decide to bend or break a few rules. I admit, I like taking risks. I like breaking rules. Breaking rules makes me feel different and I like it. I admire people who can break long-established fashion rules and make their looks appear impeccable. By my standards, the truly stylish people are those who break rules. It's too easy to conform.

Ladies and Gentlemen, these are the fashion rules I tend to break VERY often:

1) I'm guilty of wearing red lipstick during the day.
Yes. I do. A lot. Red lipstick is my favourite lip colour, and it has become my staple look over the past months. I feel that red lipstick dresses up even the most boring of outfits and in a way, it makes me feel like myself. This is definitely a rule worth breaking, unless you get easily frustrated by people giving you strange looks just because you're wearing a colour they find inappropriate for the day.

2) I wear men's clothes.
This is such a fun rule to break. I admit that it did feel very weird when I bought a man's item for the first time. I remember that I had got a pair of lime Converse shoes from Springfield, which I totally loved. But gradually, I got used to it and even the stores' salespeople got used to it. Generally, I buy tshirts, shirts, blazers or accessories from men's sections. I've never bought a pair of trousers. Mhmm...now that gives me an idea...

3) I mix metals.
It is a well-renowned fact that you should NEVER mix gold and silver in your outfit. Yeah, says who? I disagree. I do mix metals. It gives outfit a very edgy dimension...so who cares about what everyone else believes! I think that you should try to make sure that you have an almost equal amount of silver and gold. Don't wear 23498239847 gold rings and 1 silver ring. Wear 234 gold rings and 234 silver rings :) You can also buy jewellery that incorporates mixed metals, like this Fossil chain bracelet in the picture.

4) I wear winter whites.
I adore white tops, shirts, blouses. I say that in all my posts. LOL. I don't think white clothes should only be limited to Summer. But, please run away from anyone wearing white boots during winter, and DON'T WEAR ANY YOURSELF FOR CHRIST'S SAKE.

5) I wear sunglasses even if it's not sunny.
I'm sure there MUST be a study which confirms that outfits look immediately cooler when paired with sunglasses.

6) I will always buy the flashier, riskier, trickier item instead of the subtler, safer, straightforward piece.
I love challenges. I like buying things which many people would normally disapprove of. Firstly, because the likelihood of seeing the item on someone else is very low. Secondly, because as Walt Disney once said, it's always fun to do the impossible. In this case, it's always fun to wear what others think is impossible.

I would like to close this post with a quote which I live by. This is my motto. My mantra. My motivational saying:

Nobody remembers the person who conformed out of inadequacy. Nobody notices a patch of grass, they see the tree.

Let them be the grass. Just make sure you're the tree.

  3. This is awesome! I didn't even know not wearing red lipstick during the day was a rule, I do it 3/4 of the time, haha.
Though, couldn't you say that wearing lots of gold with only 1 piece of silver or wearing white boots are just more rules able to be broken?
