Style Icon: Shirley B. Eniang

Dear Readers,

Quite a while back, I used to post a Style Icon Entry weekly, but I feel like I've been slagging in that department as of late so I decided to make amends today. Whereas I'd normally devote my Style Icon posts to actresses, singers or fictional TV characters, this entry is focussing on one of favourite bloggers in the whole wide world: Shirley B. Eniang from Meek-n-Mild.

I have to admit that I noticed a huge difference in the fashion blogosphere recently. Most of the bloggers and YouTubers I follow have become increasingly arrogant and condescending. I mean, really, who on earth do some of them think they are? They lost their humility and as far as I'm concerned, they've compromised their credibility. Yet, Shirley is one of those gems that keeps her feet on the ground (even though she has more than reason enough to think highly of herself!). Oh, and she owns a Paris picture which you can see in most of her videos. That helped to win me over too!

Meet Shirley

Shirley's style is fresh, clean and very elegant. Just like myself, Shirley seems to be into sharp lines but does incorporate softer cuts and hues into her outfits. Most of all, I just love how versatile she is. She's not one of those bloggers who features an item just once, but instead incorporates the same pieces creating entirely different outfits by spicing up her accessories, make up or a few details here and there.

Speaking about details, Shirley has a great eye for them. When it comes to the little things, Shirley aces them like no other, whether it's related to fashion, make-up or photography. This is one of the aspects that got me addicted to her blog and YouTube channel! It all looks so perfect, effortless and simple. And how does she manage to look great in every hair-do?

As I said already, Shirley's style is rich in diversity so I tried to choose some essentially different looks and recreated them as Polyvore sets.

Clean and Simple

In this look, Shirley sports a gorgeous shift dress and a pair of leggings. Black pumps and and a tote bag complete the look perfectly. Whereas this would easily classify as a minimal outfit, the pop of orange adds that special something to the look. I love how simple and chic this look turned out!

Polka and Red

Shirley is blessed with what I deem to be a perfect figure, which gives her a great advantage with pencil skirts. From what I've gathered through my religious following of her blog, Shirley loves polka dots. I can't help but agree! Polka dots are fun but can also be dressed up for a more elegant look. Red, white and black always work, so keep that in mind next time you open your wardrobe!

Androgyny

You know I love myself some androgyny, so I just had to feature this look by Shirley. I remember seeing this photo round about the same time I was desperately looking for a tan coat. Needless to say, it made me want one even more!

The Yeti

I swear I always laugh so hard when Shirley describes the ombre faux fur coat as her 'yeti'! Faux fur is really in this Winter, but I'm afraid that many got it wrong. Shirley stands from the crowd - in a good way! - by pairing this statement pieces with highly understated pieces. That's the way to do it!

Craving Paris

There it is! There it is! The Eiffel Tower picture I mentioned earlier! How gorgeous does Shirley look in this classy number? Beyond words right? It's just as though she came out of a vintage movie! Polka dots feature again, yet with a difference. Shirley opts for a peplum top and a black pencil skirt. The little belt creates a subtle yet noticeable emphasis to her waist and the red beret and lip break the monochromatic look very nicely.

Getting Festive

Have you noticed that a couple of outfits I've chosen all rely on the same colour trio? Black, white, red. As far as I'm concerned, this is what I admire most about Ms. Eniang! The way she plays around the same idea / piece / colour combination without making it look repetitive. Have you chosen what you're wearing for Valentine's day? The above look might be a great idea.

You can follow Shirley on her blog, her main YouTube channel, her vlog channel, her Tumblr, her Twitter and LookBook. All the photos were taken from Shirley's lovely blog.
