Oh My Welch: Florence's Vogue UK debut.

Dear Readers,

I am one of those people who cheesily awaits the new year, eager for change and newness. In spite of what those Mayans said, or what The Economist predict for the Euro Zone, I believe 2012 is going to be good.

Well, seems like I'm not the only one who wants to start 2012 with a 'BANG!'. Vogue UK is definitely starting the new year on a good note. Why? Just look at this cover for the January issue, and well, I won't need to explain anything.

Someone looks like a goddess...

I bet you knew I was going to speak about it anyway. I'm a rebel, you know. In this stunning shot by Mario Testino, Florence Welch makes her official Vogue debut (strictly speaking, she already graced the front page of Vogue Japan, but we all know that you make it big only when you bag the cover of one of the big Vogues).

In her icy blue Chloe frock, Florence is set to wow anyone who looks at the cover, but is it me, or do you feel like the cover is not very Florence-y at all? Whilst Florence looks gorgeous, and very reminiscent of a Botticelli beauty, I can't help but think that the people behind this cover should have channelled some more Florence vibes. You know, more like the Florence we see in 'Cosmic Love' or 'Rabbit Heart'. I still like the cover, the colours look perfect too, but given that this is her first important Vogue cover, I would have preferred it to have her name written all over it.

The real Florence phenomenon, in my humble opinion, lies in the fashion spread inside the magazine itself. In a myriad of different pastel dresses, by Alexander McQueen and Marchesa amongst many others, the gem of the music industry looks more like herself than she does on the cover.

Florence's spread, the Florence I like

Do you think that the first shot of the fashion spread (shown above) would have made a better cover? I personally believe it would have been mind-blowing. Oh well...
