I know many of you were expecting me to engage in a lengthy post about Chanel's SS2012 Couture collection, telling you how much I loved the colour palette and the choice of venue. Yet, since I find it utterly useless to muse about something you know I am always in love with, I decided to tackle it in a different way.
Most people I know - bloggers included - look at couture using the wrong eyes. You know, it's just something to look at and admire for its quirkiness or flamboyance. I don't agree. Couture is as inspirational as LookBook or Tumblr. You just have to know how to interpret it.
The following are three sets inspired from the same Chanel SS2012 Couture collection, in which I look closely at colour, proportion, texture and shape for ideas. I hope you enjoy.
Dressed Up Slouchiness
If any of you heard Mr.Lagerfeld describing the collection, you must have heard him saying that he opted for extremely low pockets to convey that nonchalant attitude. I say, what's more nonchalant than an oversized jumper? In this look, I preserved the colour palette employed chez Chanel, and I also tried to stick to the proportions utilised.
Monotone Maxi
In the world of minimalism, monotone outfits reign in the most undisputed of ways. I know many steer clear from one-colour outfits, but then again, if Karl does it why shouldn't we too? In this outfit, I also tried to recreate the lengths used in the original. It's the sort of outfit that makes a statement, but silently.
Waisted
In my final interpretation, I chose this interesting blue number. The cut places an unmistakable emphasis on the lower waist, offering a welcome change from the increasing number of high-waisted pieces. Whilst I chose to keep the colour palette, the bow detail and the shoes, I also added a pair of cat-eye geeky glasses for extra detail. Oh, and that skirt is meant to be worn quite low, you don't want to accentuate your high waist!
May the spirit of Karl Lagerfeld be with you. He rocks.
