Who is William Wilde?

Dear Readers,

As soon as William Wilde mentioned 'Marilyn' and other 'glamourous women' as his source of inspiration, I knew he had just earned my deepest respect. In today's post, I introduce you to another international designer from Runway Malta (which is on next Saturday, by the way!).

Mr William Wilde is a London-based designer, who obviously chose the aforementioned British city as his favourite fashion capital. What are we to expect from a designer who describes his collection as 'Wham, Bang, Pow'?

Latex. Quite a great deal of it, in fact. Wilde singles out 'latex rubber sheeting' as the main characteristic of his collection, which he moulds to the woman's body to create a 'stunning silhouette'. Whereas this whole crafty task may seem daunting to many of us, Wilde declares that he deeply enjoyed working with latex's unique properties.

After choosing Galliano over Lagerfeld, and Versace over Prada, William Wilde told me that even though latex is enjoying a sudden surge in popularity in everyday wear, most of the numbers in his collection are of a slightly more formal nature. He describes them as clothing for a 'special occasion'.

I always enjoy asking designers what their favourite piece from the collection is. Interestingly, Wilde identified a Union Jacket as his personal favourite, not only because it was the first piece he made, but also because he particularly likes flag prints.

I look forward to seeing this jacket myself. And so should you. Join us next Saturday for Runway Malta. Only a few tickets left!
