Lara Stone for Vogue Netherlands

Dear Readers,

You are surely no strangers to my fixation with magazine covers. I can quite safely call myself a cover junkie for I have, quite a few times, bought publications solely because I liked their front page. Oh well, to each his own.

I've written so many cover posts in the pasts - probably my most popular one was about the September covers - but for some reason I haven't done anything similar recently. Therefore, since I found a mag cover I'm head over heels with and to mark the birth of a new Vogue in the Vogue Family, I decided to sit down, coffee in hand, and share with you my views on the first ever cover for Vogue Netherlands.

Well, they do say that there's never a second chance to make a good first impression. I bet the Vogue Netherlands team know this all too well and they decided to heed this precious piece of advice. Lara Stone - 'lovely Lara'...yes we're all lovely! - graces the cover in very simple, minimal make up set against a background of white light. Nothing too distracting..and when I mean 'nothing', I'm referring to overly bold clothing and unnecessarily large writing. It's all very well proportioned. That earns them full points from me.

I also believe that the simplicity, almost bare nature of this cover is the perfect idea for a first cover. Vogue Netherlands is a fresh addition to the Vogue family and strictly speaking it's still a blank, white page waiting to be written on. So for me, opting for a fresh, white-based, quasi blank cover is the best way to highlight that Vogue Netherlands is like a new copybook (and we're all wondering what direction it's going to take!)

Please meet the Vogue Netherlands cover for the May 2012 issue. Shot taken by Josh Olins.

Do you like this cover as much as I do?
