Lo-lee-tah

Dear Readers,

When I'm obsessed with something, I'm obsessed with it like my life depended on it. At the moment I'm fixated with Vladimir Nabokov's 'Lolita': a rather controversial book relating a 'love story' between middle-aged professor Humbert Humbert and his eventual 12-year old step-daughter Dolores 'Lolita' Haze. I've always wanted to see what this whole 'Lolita' thing was about when I was reading for my English degree, but I got round to doing so when the novel kept being mentioned on Pretty Little Liars. Obviously,  I can't miss out on any possible PLL hints, even if that means reading and analysing a classic novel. Okay?

Truth be told, I haven't as yet read the book. I decided to watch the two movie adaptations before because I know Nabokov's particular writing style deserves unchallenged attention. Now that I know the plot well, I can focus on how this brilliant writer makes me emphatise with a pedo. I confess I'm struggling to refrain myself from engaging in a technical literary discussion right now...

So, back to the movies. Stanley Kubrick's 1962 adaptation was rather enjoyable, but I'm head over heels with Lyne's 1997 version. In particular, I'm quite intrigued by Domenique Swain's portrayal of Dolores. I think she nailed it. She also has this particular fashion sense I'm now quite fond of.

Unfortunately, I planned to do a 'Dolores Haze Inspiration Post', but I haven't found decent images to work with. Instead, here are a handful of photos of Lolita that pretty much sum up why I love her fashion sense. They do speak for themselves don't they?

We can nerd around in the comments section if you want to leave me any feedback about the movie or the novel. I'm quite curious to know whether we share the same opinion.
