Here's the first of a possibly long series of posts about September covers. You know that September is the 'Januuuuary of fashion'. Please leave a comment if you know where the quote is from.
Landing one September cover is already a big deal. Landing two should prompt the cover girl's entire nation to take to the streets to party until sunrise. American model Karlie Kloss graces the cover of two Vogues this September, looking strikingly different from one issue to another.
Her cover for British vogue is very 70s inspired. Dressed in a Jonathan Saunders shirt and a tight pair of pants - reminiscent of the American Apparel disco pants - by the same designer, the shot by Nick Knight portrays a highly colourful and fresh Miss Kloss. Too colourful, maybe? Whilst I like the styling of this particular cover, I'm less fond of the font colours chosen. I admit I'm a bit obsessive over font colours, but I feel like so much colour distracts from the highlight of the cover itself: Karlie. I like the cover better when I try to ignore that pink and orange writing.
Kloss's cover for Vogue Japan is completely on the other side of the scale. The sombre, muted, Autumnal colours used for the type are the perfect canvas for Kloss' gothic ensemble. I can't decide whether I love that figure-hugging YSL Fall 2012 dress better than that sultry make-up she's wearing. Her eyes look exceptionally piercing over here. Here's what could become my favourite Vogue September 2012 cover (to date...)
