According to my very reliable sources (read as 'myriad of fashion newsletters in my inbox this morning'), a prominent French editor walked to the lift exclaiming 'I love Oscar, I love Oscar' following Oscar de la Renta's Spring 2013 show yesterday. If, by some unlikely bout of fortune, I were present there too, I would have joined in the choir without thinking about it twice.
Oscar de la Renta is the undisputed red-carpet king. He also happens to dress various important politically involved ladies as well as their lucky daughters. The man is quite good at it isn't he?
De la Renta's SS2013 collection was strongly rooted in diversity. Tailored shorts, jumpsuits, floor-sweeping gowns and head-turning pencil skirts: it had a bit of everything. In terms of colour, de la Renta included neutrals, fuschia, green, yellow and a pop of bright red amongst others. Variety is the order of the day in the silhouette department as well. I'm glad to see waisted shapes, midi-length garments and slightly flared skirts, but I'm also totally intrigued by how de la Renta interpreted the peplum.
While we wait to see an army of celebrities gracing the red carpet in one of these breathtaking de la Renta gowns, let's all imagine we were the ones strutting our stuff on the catwalk by enjoying the full show.
